Migrating WordPress to VEDOS Hosting WP
Step 1

Download our plugin and install it in WordPress

Upload the ZIP file in the admin under Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin.

Step 2

Activate the plugin and create a backup

In the VEDOS Backup & Transfer menu, run a full backup and then a copy of your website to Hosting WP.

Step 3

Your new website is ready to view

  1. Go to vedos.cz/vedos-transfer-main.zip and download the ZIP file with the copy plugin.
  2. Log in to the admin of the WordPress website you want to move.
  3. In the left menu, select Plugins → Add New Plugin.
  4. Click the Upload Plugin button.
  5. Upload the file and click Install Now.
  6. Activate the plugin.

  1. In the left menu, select VEDOS Backup & Transfer.
  2. Click Full backup.
  3. Wait for the backup to be generated.
  4. Click the Launch a copy of the website on VEDOS hosting button.
  5. Wait for the copying process to finish.
  6. Click the green button with a domain in the format xxx.123.vedos.website to open the copy of your website on that test domain.

  1. Log in to the WordPress admin in the test environment (e.g. xxx.123.vedos.website/wp-admin). The login details are the same as in your original admin.
  2. In the left menu, select Settings → General.
  3. Find the Website URL (Hosting) field and enter your domain name.
  4. Click the Save and continue button.
  5. Once the domain has been registered successfully, continue by ordering the Hosting WP service.

A detailed description if you get stuck

The first step in moving the service is creating a working copy of your website. Below you’ll find the whole procedure broken down into individual stages.

Installing the copy plugin +

To copy an existing WordPress to the Hosting WP service, first download, install and activate the copy plugin:

  1. Go to https://vedos.cz/vedos-transfer-main.zip and download the ZIP file with the copy plugin.
  2. Log in to the admin of the WordPress website you want to move.
  3. In the left menu, select Plugins → Add New Plugin.
  4. Click the Upload Plugin button.
  5. Upload the file and click Install Now.
  6. Activate the plugin.
Launching the WordPress copy +

Once installation and activation are complete, follow these steps:

  1. In the left menu, select VEDOS Backup & Transfer.
  2. Click Full backup.
  3. Wait for the backup to be generated.
  4. Click the Launch a copy of the website on VEDOS hosting button.
  5. Wait for the copying process to finish.
  6. Click the green button with a domain in the format xxx.123.vedos.website to open the copy of your website on that test domain.
Checking that everything works +

We provide the test environment and domain for 30 days from the start of copying your WordPress to Hosting WP. You’ll find the copied website on a test domain in the format xxx.123.vedos.website. Test:

  • Website and admin speed
  • That the following work:
    • sending email via SMTP (the service does not support PHP mail)
    • common processes on the website (e.g. shopping cart, contact forms, …)
    • logins for different roles (e.g. admin, regular user, …)
    • services of external providers (e.g. monitoring, payment gateways, …)

If you are moving from an existing Webhosting service, cancel it and release the name before taking further steps, as described in the guide Services – Cancellation.

Setting up the service on your own domain +

The procedure below only works if you do not have a Hosting WP service set up yet. To move from the test environment to an existing Hosting WP service, use any plugin that supports migration between hosting providers.

If you’re happy with the service’s performance and everything works correctly, move to the new Hosting WP service:

  1. Log in to the WordPress admin in the test environment.
  2. In the left menu, select Settings → General.
  3. Find the Website URL (Hosting) field and enter your domain name.
  4. Click the Save and continue button.
  5. Once the domain has been registered successfully, continue by ordering the Hosting WP service.

Automatic system setup +

Once the order is completed and paid, wait for the system to be fully set up automatically. This includes:

  • Modifying or setting up WEDOS DNS.
  • Renaming the WordPress system.
  • Generating and activating HTTPS certificates for the domain.
