History of WEDOS / VEDOS
WEDOS was founded in 2010 and became the largest web hosting provider in Czechia within 31 months.
We have two private data centers of our own, housing only our own servers and technology. In addition, in our second data center, DC2, servers are cooled in an oil bath. We’re not afraid to invest in technology, innovation, and research, so that we can offer our services to as wide an audience as possible. This has also helped us maintain very favorable hosting prices over the long term and respond to current market demands.
WEDOS DC 1 “The Bunker”
Our first data center was established in 2010 together with WEDOS Internet, a.s. It originally served as a civil defense shelter at a strategic location. Between 2018 and 2020, it underwent a modernization costing CZK 20 million. We installed a new transformer station, two generators, and upgraded the free cooling, cooling systems, and electrical network, and created two independent branches for connectivity and power.
The data center has three independent internet routes from two providers (3×100 Gbps). Each rack has at least 2×10 Gbps, and the HPE Moonshot server enclosures are connected at 4×20 Gbps.
There are always at least two people in the building around the clock. Key staff live in Hluboká nad Vltavou or within a five-minute drive. We have two of our own electricians experienced with data centers.
WEDOS DC 2 “Podskalí”
We began building our second data center in 2014 as a unique project, in which servers are cooled by an oil bath and water cooling. It’s the first commercial data center with this technology, with capacity for up to 10,000 servers. These produce so much heat that in winter it heats the town’s swimming pool.
The data center is aiming for the prestigious TIER IV Operational Sustainability certification, known as the gold TIER, which only a handful of data centers in the world hold. The entire infrastructure is being built according to these demanding requirements, which includes strict standards for security, availability, and redundant power.
For example, there will be five generator sets for continuous operation, and all infrastructure will be separated by barriers certified for a minimum 90-minute fire rating.
History
WEDOS (an acronym for WEbhosting, DOmains, Servers)
The company was founded in 2010. The entire process of building the data center and launching services took place in the form of a “reality show.” This allowed interested people to watch how the spaces were prepared, the cooling was built, and the servers themselves were installed.
From the very beginning, we’ve taken great care in choosing our hardware (eco-efficient servers with Intel XEON processors). All installations are done to achieve the lowest possible electricity consumption. Our entire system was built from the ground up, and we’ve aimed for full automation.
July 2026 – Launched Website SODEW.
June 2026 – The return of our mascot, Ládínek.
May 2026 – We successfully renewed our ISO certifications for another period.
March 2026 – Launched new hosting optimized for WordPress – Hosting WP.
September 2025 – Launched a new variant of the Mailhosting service – Mailhosting Business, with 1 TB of capacity.
July 2025 – Launched wedos.tools – technical tools for your website.
June 2025 – We tightened security and domain registration processes according to new ICANN rules.
May 2025 – We successfully renewed our ISO certifications for another period.
April 2025 – We have the highest number of registered .cz domains at CZ.NIC.
March 2025 – WEDOS has become one of the certified DDoS Protection providers under the German BSI.
February 2025 – WEDOS simplifies its structure: the hosting division moves under the new VEDOS brand, services are split
February 2025 – Relocation of our holding company WEDOS’s headquarters to Luxembourg, WEDOS opens headquarters in Luxembourg
January 2025 – WEDOS Global Protection is a new partner of Allianz für Cyber-Sicherheit in the fight against cyber threats
January 2025 – Renewal of our accreditation as an ICANN domain registrar for another 5 years.
January 2025 – WEDOS Internet, a.s. expands WEDOS Globalna infrastruktura with another location in Singapore
